FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed surge limiter designed for . protection of high-voltage equipment insulation of power networks and stations against atmospheric and short-time switching surges has at least one module incorporating base insulating tube of composite material faced by tracking-protective ribbed cover, metal electrodes secured at its ends, and axially held-down varistor disk column placed in-between. Base tube is fixed to metal electrodes through pin joint; varistor column is coaxially locked in position within base tube by means of net sleeve. Base insulating tube may be made of composite fibrous material or glass-fabric laminate. Net sleeve may be made of continuous spiral threads and also of continuous thermosetting threads, or of continuous threads such as aramide ones. Flexible current-conducting compensating disk may be made of metal-filled rubber.
