FIELD: protection of high-voltage equipment against lightning and switching surges. SUBSTANCE: protective gear has at least one pile of varistors placed between two extreme electrodes in insulating cylinder mounted in external polymeric shell. Through ducts are made in cylinder wall over its entire length to provide communication between cylinder interior and clearance between cylinder and external polymeric shell; ducts are closed with plugs whose mechanical strength is lower than that of insulating cylinder.
