FIELD: electrolytic production of aluminum, namely cathode devices of aluminum cells.
SUBSTANCE: packing of lead of cathode rod includes metallic collar secured to cathode jacket and packing around cathode rod. Between packing and cathode rod there is layer of material providing sliding motion of cathode rod relative to packing. Metallic collar is secured to cathode jacket is realized by means of bolt joint having stud, nut, washer. Number of such bolt joints may be 4 - 8 depending upon size of cathode rods. Openings of metallic collar have diameter consisting of 1.2 - 2.0 of stud diameter. Metallic collar may have metallic shell with width consisting of 1.0 - 2.0 of fastening member thickness. It is possible to place gasket of compressible refractory material with thickness consisting of 1.0 - 2.0 of metallic collar thickness between metallic collar and cathode jacket.
EFFECT: increased useful life period of aluminum cell due to elimination of melt flowing through side walls and windows cut in lengthwise walls of cathode jacket for passing cathode rods.
