FIELD: measuring technique.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises generating a thermocapillary flow in a layer of the liquid by means of a laser beam. The flow causes the dynamic deformation of the free surface of the liquid, which is shaped the surface into a hollow. The viscosity of the liquid is inferred from the time interval between the moment of switching in of the laser beam and the moment of the beginning of the measurements of the distribution of light intensity in the part of the cross-section of the laser beam reflected from the hollow. The dependence of the time interval from the liquid viscosity for a given value of the liquid layer thickness is determined experimentally and is used as a calibration curve when measuring viscosity.
EFFECT: simplified measurements and enhanced precision.
