METHOD FOR STABILIZING URANIUM- AND PLUTONIUM-CONTAINING MATERIALS IN CERAMICRITE AND CRYSTALLINE RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL Russian patent published in 2007 - IPC G21F9/04 G21F9/16 G21F9/28

Abstract RU 2307411 C2

FIELD: nuclear material stabilization.

SUBSTANCE: oxides or halides of actinides and/or transuranium elements and/or hydrocarbons, and/or acids polluted with active and/or transuranium elements are treated by adjusting nuclear material pH to minimum 5 and adding sufficient amount of MgO to turn fluorides contained therein into MgF, and sufficient amount of aluminum γ-oxide is added to absorb practically all available liquid hydrocarbons. After that MgO- and KH2PO4-containing binder is added to treated nuclear material to form slurry. Some more amount of MgO can be introduced in addition. Crystalline radioactive material has binder composed of product of reaction between calcined MgO with KH2PO4 and radioactive material of oxides and/or halides of actinides and/or transuranium elements. Acids polluted with actinides and/or with transuranium elements, and/or with actinides, and/or with oil- and/or grease-containing transuranium elements, or those free from these pollutants can be encapsulated and stabilized by means of mentioned binders.

EFFECT: ability of burying actinides and/or transuranium elements of different forms to produce stable monolithic ceramic material.
