FIELD: power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method for identifying kind of deposit out of those commonly encountered (ice, snow, frost, and mixtures thereof) on phase conductor or ground wire in intermediate span of overhead power transmission line includes simultaneous measurement of wind speed and relative wind direction on supporting structure cross-arm close to conductor as well as deposit weight on conductor proper and wind load on deposit-bearing conductor; calculation of wind load on conductor free from deposits using wind speed and relative direction; calculation of amount of deposits on conductor using difference between wind load on deposit-bearing conductor and that on conductor free from deposit; calculation of specific density of deposit on conductor by amount of deposits and their wind load which is subtracted from known specific densities of all kinds of conductor deposits being identified, decision being taken on whether conductor is covered with deposits showing minimal difference. Proposed device implementing this method has remote-transmission unit, two insulator strings, and two force transducers, each being loosely suspended between supporting structure cross-arm and respective insulator string; bottom ends of both insulator strings are hinge-joined together to form V-shaped suspension for attaching conductor; top ends of transducer are attached to supporting structure cross-arm and spaced apart through distance equal to insulator-string and transducer lengths to form equilateral triangle together with V-shaped suspension; device also has relative wind direction meter, wind speed meter, five functional converters, divider, two threshold generators, m + 1 adders, two comparators, AND gate, and comparison unit.
EFFECT: ability of identifying kind of deposits on phase conductor or ground wire in intermediate span of overhead power transmission line.
