METHOD OF PREVENTION OF DANGEROUS APPROACH OF TWO SHIPS IN RESTRICTED WATERS WITH NO CHANGE IN LINE OF MOTION Russian patent published in 2007 - IPC B63B43/18

Abstract RU 2309082 C2

FIELD: ship handling; prevention of dangerous approach of ships in restricted waters.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in measuring the coordinates, speed and course of each ship; then first ship is selected and her relative coordinates, speed and course are calculated. Then, extreme magnitudes of relative course of the first ship corresponding to intersection with direction of relative velocity vector of safe zone of second ship are determined and are compared with present relative course of the first ship and decision is taken on probability of dangerous approach of ships. In case of danger of approach, sets of magnitudes of her courses and speeds are calculated and number and positions of points lying on section escaping from origin of coordinates and having direction of first ship velocity vector and length equal to maximum speed of this ship are determined. Then, many sets of the first ship acceleration vector magnitudes are determined and magnitude of acceleration vector is selected from these sets. According to the selected magnitude and direction and first ship acceleration her motion is set with no change in line of motion, thus excluding dangerous approach in restricted waters whose geometry excludes any change in line of ship motion.

EFFECT: avoidance of dangerous approach of ships in restricted waters.
