FIELD: powder metallurgy, namely production of materials for manufacturing metal working tools.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of preparing exothermic mixture of charge for producing alloy carbide steel and titanium boride. Charge contains, mass %: iron scale, 55 - 59; alloy cast iron, 9 - 13; titanium carbide, 6 - 8; molybdenum, 2 - 4; chrome, 3 - 5; titanium boride, 2 - 4; aluminum, 7 - 23. Layer of titanium boride with thickness 1 - 2 mm is applied onto surface of substrate of construction steel. Melting is realized due to performing self-propagating high-temperature synthesis in mode of layer-by-layer burning.

EFFECT: possibility for producing material with high strength of its layer joining, possibility for obtaining predetermined composition of carbide steel with desired properties.
