FIELD: grinding equipment.

SUBSTANCE: method involves charging material into hopper; providing longitudinal feeding of material toward drive hammer-type rotor; rotavating material using rotor upon actuation thereof for reversing transverse movement relative to material feeding direction; discharging ground material. Rotavation process is carried out with variable width of rotor working zone, said width being varied in reverse proportion to density of material within grinding zone. Speed of transverse movement of rotor working zone is varied in proportion to rate of changing the width of rotor working zone. Grinder has hopper with longitudinal feeding conveyor built into hopper bottom, and hammer-type rotor positioned in front of conveyor on drive shaft fixed on platform. Rotor is made in the form of spaced apart disks circumferentially connected by means of pins which carry hammers rotating in plane of rotation of rotor, drive mechanism for reversing transverse movement of platform and transverse movement of platform, and transverse discharge conveyor. Rotor has two groups of hammers positioned between disks and circumferentially offset with respect to one another. First group of hammers adjoin disk first in the course of movement of platform, and second group of hammers adjoin second disk. Pins have length exceeding distance between outer surfaces of disks and are rigidly connected with one another into a set within hammers of this group. Said set is positioned for spring-loaded movement of first group of hammers toward second group of hammers.

EFFECT: uniform grinding of material and reduced consumption of power.
