FIELD: manufacturing processes in machine engineering, namely methods for mechanically working large planes by means of needle milling cutter at strengthening by surface plastic deforming.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of lengthwise feed of blank, mounting, rotating and forcing combination type tool to worked surface of blank; using tool having body, needle milling cutter of wire pile and strengthening part. Needle milling cutter is arranged in central portion of tool and it has working end surface in the form of cone. Strengthening part is arranged in periphery of tool and it has working end surface in the form of deforming spring coiled to ring and having elliptical turns. On end of body separate radial grooves are formed where turns of deforming spring are arranged. Needle milling cutter is mounted with possibility of axial motion for adjusting its extension. Turns of deforming spring are forced to end of body by means of pressure cleat with use of screws. Combination tool is mounted by inclination angle relative to line normal to worked surface in direction of lengthwise feed of blank due to inclining it according to condition providing contact of generatrix of cone of needle milling cutter with worked surface of blank.

EFFECT: enlarged manufacturing possibilities, enhanced efficiency, improved quality of worked surface.
