FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for creating different application engine-compressor units with freely moving pistons. Proposed free-piston engine-compressor unit consists of 2-12 cylinder blocks secured on common frame 1 and containing, each, one cylinder of two-stroke internal combustion engine 2 and piston compressor 3 arranged on axial lines lying in one plane and intersecting in one point. Pistons of all cylinder blocks are interconnected by synchronizer provided with rods 6 rigidly connecting pistons of engine 4 and compressor 5. Crossmembers 7 are hinge-mounted on rods. Two gear racks 8 getting into meshing with two gears of synchronizer 9 are hinge-connected to crossmembers.
EFFECT: reduced specific weight of engine-compressor unit, labor input and provision of 8-10% increase of efficiency.
