RADIOGRAPHY INSPECTION METHOD Russian patent published in 2008 - IPC G01N23/18 

FIELD: radiography inspection.

SUBSTANCE: sample-simulators provided with grooves and openings of similar depth dΔ^ref.d but with different width/diameter are mounted onto items to be inspected. Length of grooves l^ref.d _groove≥10 mm. Groove and openings correspond in width and diameter in pairs. Length l^ref.d and width b^ref.d of revealed real defects are measured on base of made shot and values (ΔD/γ_D) ^ref.d and (ΔD/γ_D) ^st.d are determined by means of photometry for reference and real defects with width of image being bigger or equal to required sensitivity k(mm)of inspection, where ΔD is contrast of image of defect; γ_D is contrast factor of radiographic film. After that value (ΔD/γ_D)^ref.d _o of reference defect is selected, which corresponds in width b and length l to seen real defect. Then value Δd^ref.d is determined by using relation of Δd^ref.d=k₃[(ΔD/γ_D)^ref.d/(ΔD/γ_D)^st.d _o]Δd^st.d, where k₃=1 for hollow-bodied defects and k₃=μ/(μ-μ_d)≈ρ/(ρ-ρ_d)for defects with filling (slag); μ, μ_d, ρ, and ρ_d are linear coefficients of radiation attenuation and of density for basic metal and for matter which fills the defect in. Tolerance or intolerance off of revealed real defect is judged from achieved values of l^ref.d, b^ref.d, Δd^ref.d compared with correspond reference values.

EFFECT: improved reliability; higher precision of measurement of defects' sizes.
