FIELD: X-ray inspection of welded joints.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes mounting standard simulator with grooves of different width but similar depth which is equal to maximum permissible depth of real defect; set of standard grooves shall have groove whose width is equal to or is close to but no less than total geometric and natural unsharpness of X-ray film. After radiographing, optical density or image contrast are measured and compared with those of standard groove which is closest to real defect in width of image; comparison estimation of size in way of X-ray radiation is performed for real defects at transversal size of image no less than transversal size of image of minimum width of groove of minimum width and doubled total amount of geometric and natural unsharpness of image of defect for given X-ray photograph; defects with lesser width of image are rejected irrespective of magnitude of optical density or image contrast on X-ray photograph.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability and accuracy of estimation of sizes of defects in way of X-ray radiation.
