FIELD: service-utility and potable water supply systems, particularly water pre-conditioning by water filtration through natural granular materials, for instance to obtain high-quality potable water.
SUBSTANCE: method involves treating serpentinite layer with alkaline solution to convert thereof into anion-exchange material; filtering water through said granular serpentinite layer having particle dimensions of 0.15-2 mm. The alkaline solution is sodium, potassium, ammonium or calcium hydroxide solution or sodium or potassium carbonate solution or combinations thereof, which provides alkalinity of not less than 0.01 gE/l. Water is filtered through two or more serially arranged layers. Serpentinite layer treatment is carrier out by alkaline solution filtration through serpentinite layer in flow direction during water purification or in reverse direction.
EFFECT: increased sorption serpentinite capability, extended range of contaminants to be removed, increased water quality, possibility of in-situ water purification, elimination of purified water reserve creation and increased service life of granular material charge.
