SUBSTANCE: proposed filter for cleaning exhaust gases formed at operation of internal combustion engine consists of at least one strip-line filter element with at least one filtering section made at least of material partially penetrable for fluid medium and non obligatory, foil. Said filter element has at least one contact section with catalytically active coating for chemical conversion of gaseous components of exhaust gases, and filtering section for cleaning exhaust gases from hard particles. Contact section is arranged before filtering section, viewing in main direction of flow. Contact section is found from intake end face side of filter and it occupies less than 20% of axial length of filter in longitudinal direction, preferably, less than 10%. Method of cleaning of exhaust gases is described in invention.
EFFECT: provision of quick heating of filter to required temperature at period of starting from cold and continuous regeneration of filter.
