FIELD: quantum electronics; systems for remote detection of environment pollution, optical communications and location, laser treatment of materials.
SUBSTANCE: proposed laser has unstable resonator assembled of two mirrors that meets following characteristics: gain M is lower than 1.1 but higher than unity, equivalent Fresnel number is greater than unity and approaches half-integer value. One of mirrors is fully reflecting mirror and other one is partially reflecting mirror used for beam output. Active element may be variously shaped, for instance in the form of cylinder or slit. Such laser makes it possible to ensure single-mode generation and wide output beam at short length of resonator.
EFFECT: reduced divergence and enhanced axial brightness of output radiation; facilitated use in laser systems for material treatment.
