FIELD: mechanical engineering; welding.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to are welding by current of voltage pulses generated by supply source with high-frequency inverter. In each cycle of repeated processes of forming and transfer of molten metal drops instantaneous values of voltage, current, power and load resistance are measured and calculated. When load resistance drops, falling branch of external characteristic curve is formed by changing voltage and current to control instantaneous power on load and provide forming of drop in each cycle. When load resistance rises, uprising branch of external characteristics curve is formed by changing voltage and current to control instantaneous power on load and provide transfer of drop in each cycle. Basing on calculated multiple values of instantaneous power, mean load power is determined and held at preset level required for and sufficient to provide necessary thermal conditions of welding by simultaneous shift of both branches of formed external characteristic curve by control of instantaneous values of voltage and current with due account of preset limitations.

EFFECT: improved efficiency of welding control process owing to obtaining and use of additional information on changes of load resistance within the limits of each cycle of process.
