FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in manufacture of pistons for internal combustion engines from iron base alloy of weight equivalent to weight of piston made of aluminum base alloy. Method of manufacture of piston includes preparation of metal melt and mould for filling, filling of mould with melt, holding of metal melt in mould till metal solidifies, removal of ready castings from mould, and finishing the castings. Mould is made by manufacture of multiplace multilink unit of single models of piston with subsequent initial molding of unit with refractory grainy material, preferably, with cold-hardening sands. Mould is filled with melt in liquid-solid state under mechanical pressure at speed of melt movement in sprue of 1-10 m/s, and melt is held in mould for solidification of castings under pressure of compressed gas. Gas pressure within 4-6 atm is maintained in mould from initial moment of melt filling to end of solidification of castings.
EFFECT: reduced costs of material and manufacture of piston.
