FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method involves measuring diffusive (liquid) or membrane potential between gastric juice and test juice. The potential value being higher than threshold level set for test liquid, ulcer risk is predicted. Water is used as the test liquid. The threshold level is equal to 10 mV. Gastric juice pH is measured concurrently with diffusive and membrane potential. Ulcer disease development risk is to be predicted, if diffusive or membrane potential is higher than threshold value set for test liquid, and pH is less than 1.5. Device for studying gastric juice in vitro has two reservoirs separated with membrane, one of which is filled with gastric juice and the other one with test liquid. Comparison electrodes are placed therein. Device for studying gastric juice in vivo has chamber filled with test liquid. The chamber has contact with gastric juice via the membrane. The device has two comparison electrodes one of which interacts with gastric juice and the other one with test liquid. Voltage between the electrodes is equal to diffusive potential.

EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness in determining time for starting prophylactic treatment of gastric and duodenal peptic ulcer.
