FIELD: inorganic compounds technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to Bayer process, in particular to removal of organic carbon from aluminum hydroxide. A method for production of aluminum hydroxide with total organic carbon content below 0.5 mg/g comprises following stages: (a) dispersing aluminum hydroxide in water containing from about 50 to about 1000 g solids per 1 L water at temperature of suspension from 5 to 95°C; (b) maintaining solids in suspended state using stirring; (c) contacting suspension with ozone-oxygen mixture wherein ozone concentration is up to 20 wt %; and (d) recovering aluminum hydroxide from suspension.
EFFECT: improved quality of product.
