FIELD: physics, instrumentation technology.

SUBSTANCE: azimuthal orientation of free gyro platform by precession angle of gyro unit refers to gyroscopic systems and can be used for determination of azimuth, for instance, in various high-precision systems. Azimuth is determined using one of gyro units of stabilization system of gyrostabilized platform; to level the platform versus one of the axes an accelerometer is disconnected from torque motor of the gyro unit in stabilization circuit versus this axis, and said accelerometer is then connected with corresponding stabilization motor through stabilization amplifier; information on azimuth of gyro unit sensitivity axis is read from wide-range angle encoder of the gyro unit.

EFFECT: leveling optimization by means of a free gyro.
