FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention pertains to making of gas filled neutron tubes for generating neutron streams. Thermal treatment of the edge of the accelerating electrode of the gas filled neutron tube is done in the assembled gas filled neutron tube by a defocused beam of deuterium and tritium ions, while applying a voltage between 3.5 and 5.5 kV on the accelerating electrode of the gas filled neutron tube, and passing an ion current of deuterium and tritium between 50 and 100 mcA in the inter-electrode space for a period of 4-12 hours.

EFFECT: increased neutron stream of the gas filled neutron tube.
