FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention pertains to a device for current earthing, if the voltage of the line exceeds the given threshold value. Protective device from voltage surges is switched between the electrical line (50) and earthing (52) and consists of the first connection electrode (12), second connection electrode (18) and a moveable switching electrode (22) for switching between the operating position in contact with the first connection electrode and the position near the second connection electrode. The electric dipole (36), consisting of the variable resistor (40) and/or spark gap (38), connects the moveable electrode (22) to the second connection electrode (18). The moveable electrode (22) is made with provision for displacement through a mechanism, electromechanical relay and/or magnetic core (46), providing for repulsion when there is considerable increase in the current intensity. The separation of electrodes (12,22) forms an angle, which limits the current flowing in the dipole, and then later, when switched to the second connection electrode (18), switches off the dipole from the circuit, providing for its protection.
EFFECT: protective device against voltage surges is made, consisting of a linear electrical dipole, in particular, with a variable resistor, made with provision for fast reaction to voltage surges, arising on terminals of the device, and a means of indirect earthing of large current values without the current passing through the dipole.
