FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: arrester comprises deion chamber (6) for arc-quenching inside the body (1) and facilities to control inner gas flow to regulate characteristics of electric arc occurring at load with pulse current and electric arc stipulated by the mains aftercurrent. Distance is maintained very low between opposite surfaces of the arrester electrodes in the area of ignition. There is only insignificant expansion of distance between them in direction of the arrester end, which prevents undesired movement of electric arc at pulse currents. Gas circulation is envisaged so that blast wave from the arc stipulated by pulse current of the lightening is reflected from deion chamber (6) and/or other obstacles thus preventing movement of electric arc. Gas flow passes through deion chamber (6) with time delay, then it is returned back to the area of ignition and brought to openings made in electrodes for flow guidance thus promoting arc movement at the mains atercurrents occurred in direction of deion chamber (6).
EFFECT: optimal limitation of the mains aftercurrent excluding entry of current pulses with high amplitude to the deion chamber thus increasing service life of the arrester.
