FIELD: technological processes, metals processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to methods of vacuum-plasma application of wear resistant coatings on cutting tool and may be used in metals processing. Lower layer of multi-layer coating is made of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, molybdenum and iron compound with their ratio of, weight % - titanium 91-91.6, molybdenum 7.0-7.3, iron 1.4-1.7, and upper layer - from nitride or carbonitride of titanium, molybdenum and silicon compound with their ratio of, weight % - titanium 91.5-91.9, molybdenum 7.1-7.3, silicon 1.0-1.2. Application of coating layers is done with three cathodes that are installed horizontally in one plane. The first cathode is made as assembled from titanium and iron, the second one is made of alloy of titanium and silicon and are installed opposite to the first, and the third one is made as assembled from titanium and molybdenum and are installed between them.
EFFECT: increase of cutting tool serviceability.
