FIELD: technological processes, metals processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to methods of vacuum-plasma application of wear resistant coatings on cutting tool and may be used in metals processing. Technical result consists in increase of cutting tool serviceability. Vacuum-plasma application of multi-layer coating is made. Lower layer of multi-layer coating is made of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, molybdenum and iron with ratio of, weight %: titanium 91-91.6, molybdenum 7.0-7.3, iron 1.4-1.7 and upper layer - of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, molybdenum and aluminium compound with the ratio of, weight %: titanium 78.7-79.9, molybdenum 7.0-7.3, aluminium 13.1-14.0. Application of coating layers is done with three cathodes that are installed horizontally in one plane. The first cathode is made as assembled from titanium and iron. The second one - assembled from titanium and aluminium and are installed opposite to the first one. The third one - assembled from titanium and molybdenum and installed between them. This method allows to increase serviceability of cutting tool.
EFFECT: increase of cutting tool serviceability.
