FIELD: technological processes, metals processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to methods of vacuum-plasma application of wear resistant coatings on cutting tool and may be used in metals processing. Vacuum-plasma application of multi-layer coating is made. Lower layer of multi-layer coating is made of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, chrome and aluminium compound with their ratio of, weight %: titanium 75-77, chrome 10.4-11.5 and aluminium 12.6-13.5, and upper layer - of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, chrome and zirconium compound with their ratio of, weight % - titanium 68-73, chrome 10-11 and zirconium 17-21. Application of coating layers is done with three cathodes that are installed horizontally in one plane. The first cathode is made as assembled from titanium and aluminium, the second one - assembled from titanium and zirconium and installed opposite to the first one, and the third one - assembled from titanium and chrome and installed between them. Serviceability if cutting tool is increased as well as surface processing quality by increase of microhardness and wear resistance, and also by reduction of delamination coefficient of applied coating.
EFFECT: increase of cutting tool serviceability and quality of surface processing.
