FIELD: methods of application of multi-layer coats on cutting tools; metalworking.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes vacuum plasma application of multi-layer coat. Lower coat is made from nitride or carbo-nitride of compound of titanium, zirconium and aluminum at the following ratio of components, mass-%: titanium, 75.4-76.6; zirconium, 10.0-10.6; aluminum, 13.4-14. Upper layer is made from nitride or carbo-nitride of compound of titanium, zirconium and silicon at the following ratio of components, mass-%: titanium, 87.0-88.9; zirconium, 10.0-11.5; silicon, 1.1-1.5. Layers of coat are applied with the aid of three cathodes located horizontally in one plane; first cathode is sectional in form and is made from titanium and aluminum; second cathode is made from titanium and silicon alloy and is located oppositely relative to first one; third cathode is also sectional in shape and is made from titanium and zirconium; third cathode is located between first and second cathodes.
EFFECT: increased serviceability of cutting tools.
