FIELD: oil and gas industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in oil processing industry. According to the suggested method a cuvette is probed with an optical beam of a distant ultra violet or violet radiation with a wave length in the range of 370≤λ≤420 nm, then intensity of radiation passed through an empty cuvette and the cuvette filled with analysed benzene is measured, optical density is calculated from the ratio, and octane number is determined with a calibration curve, uniting values of benzene optical density or absorption coefficient with a corresponding value of benzene octane number. Also there is suggested a device for evaluation of benzene octane number; the said device contains an optical irradiator, an optical beam generator, a probed cuvette with benzene, a detector of passed optic radiation, a meter for intensity of passed optic radiation at the outlet of the cuvette, and a detector of absorption coefficient on the base of an analog digital converter and a processor. As an irradiator, a light emitting diode or laser diode is taken with a wave length of 370≤λ≤420 nm, and injection current source for diode supply is made with a built-in current modulator. The invention facilitates on-line control of benzene octane number, simplicity of analysis of measurement results and upgraded accuracy, compactness and mobility of inexpensive and explosion-proof device.
