SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in land reclamation for the controlled and optimal irrigation of plants regardless of the type of soil both in the field and in greenhouses. The method includes sounding of a leaf simultaneously with coaxial optical beam at two wavelengths of near-IR range, corresponding to the maximum absorption of water in the overtone vibrations of water molecules 1400 nm ≤ λw ≤ 1500 nm or 870 nm ≤ λw ≤ 2000 nm and minimum absorption of chlorophyll and water in the range of 800 nm ≤ λw ≤ 1200 nm. The intensity of the leaf underwent optical infrared radiation is determined, or the corresponding optical density Dλw,λm at these wavelengths, and the water content in the leaf in vivo is determined from the ratio.
EFFECT: non-invasive real-time monitoring of moisture content in leaves of live plants enables to create energy-saving technologies at the optimal flow of moisture in the automatic watering mode.
