FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method and device for making optical fibre, in which gas, containing deuterium can be used several times for treating optic fibre, involves a first operation of making tenuous gas medium in a space in which there is optical fibre, a second operation of supplying gas to this space, containing deuterium, from a deuterium reservoir so as to subject the optical fibre to action of this gas, a third operation of extracting gas from this space, containing deuterium, into the deuterium reservoir, and repetition of the first, second and third operations. The device contains a supplementary device for making the tenuous gas medium in the first space, before supplying gas, containing deuterium. The technical outcome is the design of a method of treating optical fibre, which is capable of eliminating centres nonbridging-oxygen-hole (NBOHC) in the optical fibre for the short action time using gas, containing deuterium with low concentration, and provision for repeated use of the gas.
