FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: nuclear fuel is an assembly of elemental threads, most of which are made of fissionable material. The assembly is placed into elastic non-oxidised shell, with elemental threads compressed due by shell deformation. Method of obtaining nuclear fuel involves production of elemental threads, production of elemental thread assembly, placing the assembly into a shell, and shaping of the shell.
EFFECT: nuclear fuel with high density of fissionable material is dimensionally stable and displays good heat transfer properties in radiation environment, and maintains efficient venting of gaseous decay products.
