FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, namely to powdered uranium-based alloy, and can be used in production of fuel in experimental nuclear reactors. Uranium-based alloy powder containing molybdenum, with metastable γ phase is formed of particles with elongation factor of at least 1.1 to not more than 2, value of closed porosity from more than 0 to not more than 5 % (vol/vol), besides, it is formed of grains in which change in content of molybdenum within one grain is not more than 1 wt%. Method of producing uranium-based alloy powder involves bringing into contact at least one reagent selected from uranium oxides and mixtures thereof, uranium fluorides and mixtures thereof, with second reagent of molybdenum or molybdenum alloy and third reagent from metal-reducer; reaction of reactants with formation of alloy in form of powder particles of which are coated with layer of oxide or fluoride of metal-reducer; cooling of powder and removal of oxide or fluoride of metal-reducer.
EFFECT: ease of production of nuclear fuel powder and optimized fuel behaviour during irradiation, particularly increases capacity to retain gaseous fission products.
