FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of producing a target for the production of an isotope 99Mo includes fabrication of a foil-based core, which is formed by layer-by-layer laying of bimetallic foil or its winding onto a base of zirconium or its alloys. The foil is produced as follows: metallic uranium hardened from β-phase is encased in a hermetic shell of zirconium or its alloys, hot extrusion of the resulting bimetallic billet is carried out through the spinneret and repeatedly rolled to produce a bimetallic foil that is essentially a metal uranium foil located in hermetically sealed zirconium or its alloys. The resulting core is placed in the outer sheath of zirconium or its alloys and compression of the assembly billet is carried out to provide diffusive communication between all layers of the target.
EFFECT: ensuring a high radiation stability of the targets due to the substantially lower swelling of metallic uranium and the yield of the isotope quantity is no worse than in the targets with a core completely made of low enriched metal uranium.
