FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: composite current conducting material is used as the base of the detecting element of an electrode, sensitive to silver ions. The material contains ultra fine silver particles in a polymer matrix, obtained by chemical deposition of silver particles on the surface of micro-granules of a thermoplastic polymer with subsequent hot pressing. The composite electrode based on the silver-polystyrene composite material does not require preliminary preparation of the investigated sample. Response time of the electrode does not exceed 5 minutes, and the electrode is very sensitive and allows for easy trapping of silver ions even at concentration of 10-7 mol/l due to formation of a surface silver-polystyrene complex.
EFFECT: simpler and cheaper technology of making a sensitive ion-selective element for making a completely solid potentiometric ion-selective sensor which is selectively sensitive to silver ions.
