FIELD: transportation.
SUBSTANCE: according to invention, multiple mail units are gathered in mail collection places and then transported in containers to mail centres where they are sorted by categories in sorting devices. According to the invention, mail is placed into transportation containers which are transported to unloading areas of mail centres. During transportation container filling and/or its transportation to mail centres, random partial preliminary mail units sorting by mail categories takes place so that when mail units are retrieved from transportation containers at unloading areas they look like stacks formed in predetermined way of preliminary sorting and sorted by categories. After that they are directed to the next handling stations as per their categories.
EFFECT: high handling rate of mail units at mail cenntres.
