FIELD: optics.

SUBSTANCE: proposed device is a multilayered electro-optical structure, consisting of a film of a nematic liquid crystal, sensitised by a light-sensitive charge-transfer complex which is based on a system consisting of light-sensitive pyridine structure and fullerene. For orientation of the molecules of the liquid crystal, an orienting coating based on carbon nanotubes is used.

EFFECT: increased speed of operation of the modulator.
