FIELD: physics; optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to recording-reading optical information. Proposed is a liquid-crystal display element consisting of two substrates on which there are transparent conducting coatings and a liquid-crystal layer between these substrates, wherein the liquid crystal is in form of a nematic electro-optic mixture which is pure or sensitised with nanoobjects, and conducting coatings are treated with surface electromagnetic waves.
EFFECT: faster operation of the display operation due to reduction of the switching time of the electrooptical layer to 1 ms or less; reduced number of layers in the display element due to absence of an aligning layer which increases transparency of the element; reduced amplitude of control supply voltage; and possibility of different configurations of liquid-crystal elements.
