FIELD: transport.
SUBSTANCE: unit includes railway motors mechanically linked to wheelsets put on rails and run in generator mode, transforming mechanical energy of the moving train into electric energy. The motors include armatures and independent excitation windings. Railway motor armatures are directly bonded with brake resistors and independent excitation windings are connected in series and connected to power supply source, which provides locomotive braking power control by changing the independent excitation winding currents. Within the electric brake, wheelsets are connected in series with brake resistors through sliding contacts to the railway motor armatures. This forms an electrical circuit section for passage of armatures' braking current through the wheelsets and rails, which make it possible to control their contact areas by electric current.
EFFECT: increased wheelset-rail adhesion coefficient and locomotive braking force.
