FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be applied in manufacturing of electric valve devices. Method of obtaining high-purity niobium monoxide (NbO) powder involves mixing of Nb2O3 with powder or granules of metal niobium at weight ratio of 2.5:1; forming a solid brick out of this mix; heating to temperature over 1945°C. Further the reaction mix is solidified to form a block which is further reduced into niobium monoxide powder. Reaction can be performed electron beam, plasma arc, induction or vacuum arc furnace. Recycled niobium monoxide, niobium wire or other niobium-containing scrap products can be added to the mix. Obtained NbO has highly pure composition and crystallography and sufficient surface area for use in electronic devices.
EFFECT: obtaining solid non-porous ingots which can be reduced into small non-porous sharp articles.
