FIELD: agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method provides for determination of sex on early stages of the plant's development. Stalked leaves collected from one-year pistachio whips prior to blooming period commencement are immersed in a 96% ethanol solution with one part of glycerine admixed. After that one performs quantitative and qualitative (size) evaluation of the cells and the stomata as well as examination of the leaf epidermis and gum canals based on a 1 mm2 sample. Male plant leaves are characterised by minor size of cells, epidermis stomata and gum canals. Female plant leaves are characterised by greater size of cells and stomata.
EFFECT: determination of plant sex at earlier stages.
