FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention pertains to methods of producing europium dichloride EuCl2, used in making fluorescent tubes, as well as in making lasers, X-ray dosimeters, paper bleaching agents and other new materials with given optical properties. Europium dichloride EuCL2 is obtained from reduction of anhydrous europium trichloride EuCl3. Aluminium alkyls R3Al are used as the reducing agent, where R=Et, iso-Bu. Molar ratio EuCl3:R3Al is 1:10-40. The reaction takes place at atmospheric pressure, room temperature, in toluene and in an argon atmosphere.
EFFECT: lower temperature, simpler synthesis and increased output of target product.
