FIELD: physics; communication.
SUBSTANCE: present invention pertains to transfer of data packets. Communication session between a host trying to access the network, and the network access server (NAS) is established only if there are several message exchanges. After detection of a physical channel between the host and NAS, the NAS immediately sends an identification request message to the host. In response, the host sends a request message, which comprises all parameter versions, in addition to the response to the identification request message, for configuration of the communication channel and control of access to the network. The NAS then selects parameter versions and sends chosen versions back to the host. If the chosen versions in the response message satisfy a threshold value, the host just transfers user data for access to the network through the NAS.
EFFECT: design of a fast and efficient method of setting up initial communication channels before any subsequent levels of data traffic.
