FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: device includes sensing unit formed by inductive sensing device placed between two infrared photodetectors, executed in the form of inductance coil placed in ring groove of open end face of ferrite core with central hole, and capacitive sensing device erected in the central hole of the ferrite core coaxially with this hole. At travel of the heated metal product concerning the device sensing unit there is consecutive passage of the first infrared photodetector by it, cross of electromagnetic field of the inductive sensing unit, interaction to electric field of the capacitive sensing unit and passage of the second infrared photodetector. Thus the signal with level logic "1", bearing the information on identification of the heated metal product is processed on the first output of the device. There is voltage with level logic "0" on the second output of the device. In case of travel of the heated or unheated nonmetallic product the signal with level logic "1", bearing the information on their identification, is processed only on the second output of the device. There is voltage with level logic "0" on the first output of the device.
EFFECT: identification of heated metal and unheated or unheated nonmetallic products without contact to them, with high reliability of operation in conditions of radiation exposure on it from external IR sources.
