FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: postmortem magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedure is executed of formalin fixated brain macro specimen, using programme mode T2 of weighted images (WI), with 5 mm scans thickness in coronal and sagittal planes, and then in modes T1 WI, T2 WI, pulse sequence IR, with 2 mm scans thickness in axial plane. MRI scans are positioned under commissural coordinate system. On section images obtained, areas of altered MR signal are detected. Whereupon, macro specimen sections are performed according to MRI landmarks with 5 mm section thickness, parallel to intercommissural line. On anatomical sections, abnormal areas are revealed. Further, after comparison of identical anatomical sections and MR scans of brain, localised histological study is conducted of gross abnormal tissues and altered signal areas, revealed by MRI. Pathological substrate is microscopically verified, and brain pathology is diagnosed.
EFFECT: increase in reliability and accuracy of diagnostics.
