METHOD OF NON-INVASIVE POST-MORTEM DIAGNOSIS OF CEREBRAL EDEMA IN A DECEASED NEWBORN Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC A61B6/00

Abstract RU 2796875 C1

FIELD: medicine; pathological anatomy; forensic medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for non-invasive post-mortem diagnosis of cerebral edema in a deceased newborn. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain of the deceased is performed in the position of the body lying on the back using T1 and T2 modes of registration of pulse sequences. The index of tissue edema is calculated according to the formula (T2v/T1v +T2n/T1n)×50, where T1b and T2b are the intensity values of the MP signal in the frontal lobe on T1- and T2-weighted images, respectively, T1n and T2n are the intensity values of the MP signal in the occipital lobe on T1- and T2-weighted images, respectively. If the values of the edema index are over 100, intravital cerebral edema is diagnosed. If the value of the edema index is less than 100, a conclusion is made about the absence of cerebral edema.

EFFECT: method provides fast, objective and non-invasive post-mortem diagnosis of cerebral edema in a deceased newborn by determining the index of tissue edema.
