FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention is attributed to electric engineering and can be used in the process of vacuum arc remelting high reactivity metals and alloys, for example - titanium alloys. The electrode represents round piece with flat bottom butt end. On the lower butt end of electrode additional element is made to support diffusive arc discharge at start of electrode melting. Additional element is performed as projection. Additionally, consumed electrode contains metal insert in its lower portion. Suggested electrode provides diffusive mode of arcing discharge at the start of electrode melting process.
EFFECT: excluding of tray submelting and cake coppering allowing to increase yield of produced ingots by 0,5-1,0 %.
