FIELD: performing operations.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to special electrometallurgy, specifically to vacuum arc remelting of highly reactive metals and alloys, and can be used in melting ingots from titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V. Method includes final vacuum arc remelting of consumable electrode, consisting of initial melting period, main melting period, termination of melting process – removal of shrinkage cavity, ingot cooling period, and ingot thermal treatment. Main period of melting is carried out at the strength of the working current of the arc, determined by the following expression: Iw=(0.85-0.95)×It, where Iw is arc working current, kA; It is the current of the transition of the contracted arc burning mode to the diffusion mode, kA; and at the end of the main period, the current intensity is reduced to value of 0.70-0.85 of the working current of the arc, the metal mass is alloyed, which is determined by the following expression: M=(150-300)×Din, where M is the mass of the alloyed metal, kg; Din is diameter of melted ingot, m. Shrinkage cavity is removed, while during the cooling period the ingot is cooled in vacuum for 1-3 hours and then in a helium medium for 1-2 hours.
EFFECT: obtaining an ingot with no local chemical inhomogeneity (β-flakes) and reduction of zonal segregation.
