FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to industrial chemistry, particularly to methods of demercuration of surfaces, contaminated with metallic mercury spilled at temperatures between +40 and -25°C. The method of demercuration of surfaces contaminated with metallic mercury involves application of a demercuration solution, keeping the demercuration solution on the surface and mechanical removal of the formed water insoluble products of mercury oxidation. Demercuration is carried out using solutions of chlorine oxide in tetrachloromethane with concentration from 50 mg/ml to 0.5 mg/ml with demercuration time of not less than 5 minutes at temperature between +40°C and -25°C.
EFFECT: method allows for cutting on demercuration time, increases efficiency of the process and reduces damage to surfaces.
