FIELD: physics; measurement.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of determining moisture of mainly solid and liquid organic samples and can be used in industry and laboratories. The invention uses a known microwave method of determining moisture of organic substances, which involves putting a test sample into a closed metal cavity and generating an electromagnetic field. Dimensions of the closed metal cavity are chosen such that they are much larger than the wavelength of the microwave source, so as to generate several oscillations of different spatial structure in non-loaded condition in the cavity, at constant power of the microwave source and fixed time of interaction of the wet test sample with field of various modes. The temperature of the sample is measured before putting it into the closed metal cavity and after interaction with electromagnetic field of various modes, and from the temperature difference, volume ratio v, of moisture is calculated using a formula.

EFFECT: more accurate moisture determination, possibility of measuring moisture of a sample with of an arbitrary shape and simpler hardware implementation of the method.
